Must see...trip across America

As many of you know we are planning a trip across the US for end of August through September. Our plans are to purchase a trailer later this year that we will tow behind our van. We are interested in hearing from you what you consider to be a must see in your part of the country. As an example, if you ever come to Washington State, you have to go take a hike at Mt. Rainier and visit Mt. St Helens. If you have time, take a ride to the top of Seattle Space Needle or a boat ride on Puget Sound. Please include your name with your suggestion, that way if we want to follow up, we can.

Wow, we would love to meet you too.
We are in S. Georgia. Hmmm, let me think about places for you to see in Georgia... Stone Mountain... it is near Atlanta. I have to think a while! Tell Luke we are praying for him and love him... I still love the pictures of Isaiah & Zeke being "ring bears"... Mandi said this would be so cool!

Yes, Julie, I just answered your email tonight and talked to you about meeting "The Searles"!!!

The trailer you are thinking of pulling is it a camper or just to put things in? The reason I ask is... if it is a camper/RV... state parks are all the way and very reasonable. Stone Mountain has a camp ground and all kinds of things there! We are about 4 hours from Stone Mtn. Just a thought! We are a camping family!

Still thinking about other places in Georgia... in Florida is the Jacksonville Zoo and it is a big one. It is about 2 hrs from us.

Will think about more... Have a blessed Lord's day ....tomorrow.
our love

ps. who is Amy (Chloe)?

Hi!
I am in Las Vegas NV. Hoover Dam is pretty cool. Death Valley isn't very far away. Then there is Bonnie Springs. I haven't been but I heard it is like an old mining town.
Nellis AFB is also here. That is home of the Thunderbirds. Around that time Aviation Nation usually kicks off. I'm not sure of the dates yet thougn.
My husband is in the Air Force so I might be able to arrange a visit to the Thunderbird hanger.
All this besides the obvious casino resort stuff. We don't really go there though.
Anyway, my name is Rachael and my e-mail address is: wearfamily@earthlink.net
Have a great trip!

Well I'm here near Philiadelphia. We the the Liberty Bell, The constitution, Besty Ross's house. Plus there is the oldest street in US. It's called Elfred's alley, I believe that's how you spell it. We have the Franklin Insitute, which has all kinds of things to see. There is the Mint, where money is made. I'm not sure if you can get in there still. Philadelphia is a MUST see place. There is such much history here. I hope you get to stop here.

We will be towing a travel trailer that we can all sleep in and yes it will need to be large to fit all of us.

In general, the trip will be down to CA, across the south, NM, AZ, to GA, up the east coast, through DC to PA before heading west, through MI, and ND. And obvisiously many states in between those points.

Lisa, do you know if the mint gives out free samples :) Sue and I visited the Denver mint many years ago, but the kids have never been.

(Congratulations to the Lockwoods on the birth of Chloe! I love that name.. if i had another girl, i would have named her Chloe.. my last two children were induced at 2 weeks overdue, so i know how you were feeling)

Now for Gordy and Sue's question. As you both know, I just took a "round the country" trip back in September and got to see many of the wonderful sites of our wonderful nation.

We stopped in South Dakota to see Mt Rushmore. There are actually a lot of things in that area to check out. I wish we had had more time while traveling. I would have spent a few days there.

We went to WA DC and saw the Vietnam Memorial, WWII memorial and Korea war Memorial. We also saw the Lincoln Memorial, and just walked around The Mall there. We also went to Arlington National Cemetary (My grandfather is buried there, so we went to his gravesight, then continued on from there) It was really amazing to see JFK's memorial and tell our kids about him. Also there was a memorial for the astronauts from both the Challenger and the Columbia. So many memorials there.

I really wish we could stop in PA sometime to see things like the Liberty Bell, but haven't made it up that far yet. Someday i will plan a trip to the northeastern states. (wanna go to Boston too).

We then traveled down to florida. We got to swim in the Gulf of Mexico. The only thing we didn't do that i wanted to do while on the East Coast was see the Atlantic Ocean. Being in WA, i have seen the Pacific many times, but not the Atlantic.

We then traveled to Texas and stayed in San Antonio for a few days. We got to see the Alamo and walk on the Riverwalk.

This summer when i travel to TX, I plan to come back by way of California. Hoping to see the Grand Canyon on this next trip.

Well, those are the things i can think of for now. Oh, and I wish we had stopped at Yellowstone. I have never been there (maybe this next trip).

To the Lockwoods, Blessings to you on the birth of Chloe Faith. May she grow up to be a mighty woman of God. Someday we hope to make it up to Alaska, however it wont be this year. If you are ever in the Puget Sound area, by all means give us a call.

Well, first of all, if you guys find the time, I would love to see you! But beyond that, my favorite place to go to here in Georgia is Savannah-- it's absolutely beautiful, and there's so much history there! And it's just a quick drive from Savannah to Tybee Island, where you can see the Atlantic, and even watch dolphins playing in the ocean!

Gordy and Sue, We visited Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone last year. I still have most of the tourist books here at home if you would like to borrow them. I can give them to my sister Laureen and she can bring them to work. There are many cool historical places in South Dakota you might want to see on the way home. Yellowstone is a awesome place to see but, you need to have at least a couple of days if not more. Mount Rushmore is also a very beautiful place with tons of places to see in the area. I have some good information on that area if you would like.

Good luck on your planning.

Blessing,
Colleen in Des Moines

Hey Sue and Gordy. Well, if you should decided to stop in the Chicago area there are TONS of things to do just in the general vicinity. But also about 3 hours away is Galena, IL....the oldest preserved city in the country. Darla and I and my other sister Pat went up there around my 40th birthday. What a neat place. There's lots of history to see here just within 30 or so minutes away from where we live. Plus there's a Six Flags close by as well. And of course, a free spot to park...our drive way and lots of room inside as well for an easy stay. =grin= Would love to reminisce on old times and catch up each other. Love thinking about the possibility of seeing you again. Hope it works out!

I am from Tacoma, but all this talk of the South got me thinking. A while back I took a business trip to Charleston,SC and from there took a little side trip to Savannah, GA. Both places were so wonderful and so rich with history (like a previous post mentioned about Savannah)I would recommend both wholeheartedly. My husband wasn't in on the trip, but I've talked about those two places so much that we are actually considering those desatinations for our trip this summer. Definate must see's and within a couple hours of each other.

Hi!
We live in south Jersey, just outside Philly. I agree that Philly is a great place to see--they have a lot happening in the summer time. Lancaster Pa, (Amish Country), is also wonderful--such a different way of life. They have the Strausburg (sp?) railroad which is a neat ride for the family with a stop at an amazing farm--just right for the whole family.
Being from NJ, I have to recomend the Jersey beaches! We just love it!
