Resting and more resting on the Rock

Luke is being sedated so that he will rest and not turn his head allowing the trach to heal. Today will be a day of quiet in Luke's room as his rest is most important. I will more blog later this evening when they start to allow him to wake up.

Some have said to me that they have been inspired by our faith and how could it remain strong during such a difficult storm in our life. As a result, I have done a lot of thinking regarding the scripture in Mattew 7:24-27 (below), it tells the parable of two people, one who built there house on the rock, and one who built it on the sand.

Matt 7:24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26"But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."

As I have thought about this, I realize the strength that many have seen in us is because my life and the life of my family is built on the rock Christ Jesus. You see, there is no way to hype or fake the peace that God has provided, eventually the house will fall in the midst of the storm. Its not to say that there aren't moments when you have strong emotions that feel so overwhelming, but it is to say that it all comes back to the Rock and standing firm in his unchangeable love and character. The book of Hebrews 13:8 says "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." meaning that God does not change. The hymn Great is thy faithfulness puts it this way in the first verse:

Great is thy faithfulness, oh God my father,
there is no shadow of turning with thee;
thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;
as thou hast been thou forever wilt be.

You see as we stand on the Rock, he pours out His love, mercy and compassion, allowing us to stand strong. Let me ask you a question, what is your life built on? Is it built on the sand (changeable) of life, your health, wealth, friends or job, things that can change in a moment and leave you in great turmoil with no where to turn? Or is it built on the Rock Christ Jesus, who will never leave you nor forsake you? I hope if you have learned nothing else from all of this, that the Searles' have built on the Rock and that is a really good thing. Will you build on the rock today?

Love you guy so much,

Gordy, Sue, and all the Searles children:

This blog has become a Testament to the unchanging and unmovable Love of our Father, almost a "book of Luke"! God has all of you covered; Gordy, all can see that you "and your house serve the Lord".

Thank you for inspiring all of us who read this,

We are so pleased to hear that Luke will be able to return home soon. You must be so excited to be able to take him home again!!
God bless, and I am sure you will find a wonderful nurse to come in to your home to help with little Luke.
Keeping your family in our prayers.

While we are excited to have Luke come home, there is a part of us that is a bit nervous. We realize it will not be easy having Luke at home, as Luke will require 24 hr care to maintain his airway. This is scary to say the least. I know we can do it with God's help.

Just as the Lord has walked with you in the hospital, so will He walk with you through the process of being at home. Fear is one of those wisdom building tools that He tends to use so that we will ask more of Him. Ask away, He's ready!

Praise You Lord Jesus as You continue to use Lil' Luke's life and the steadfast life of the Searles' family! Praise You that You are indeed the same yesterday, today and tomorrow!! You are never changing and I praise Your Holy Name! You are all that we need in this world of changes. Keep all of us who love You Lord, firm in our conviction that You alone are God!!!
Hallelujah!! We love you Searles Family.

gordy, sue, and family,

thanks so much gordy for talking about building your home on the rock. i too have done the same.........and i have lost it all, my family, my home, my pets, my 'friends'.....and i will ALWAYS stand firmly on the rock. HE will not forsake me....or you and your family. that is something i am sure both of us are certain of, and doesn't it feel good knowing that He is the same always? HE is faithful!

Your post reminded me of the song that we sing in Kid's worship (can you tell I've been teaching a kid's class the last 3 months?) - I don't remember how it goes...but it has to do with the parable you were talking about.
Where's Amy or Cindy when you need to somebody to sing it..or at least remind you how the words go?

Still praying,

Praise God that he is our rock! I remember when we had one of our little ones in the hospital and we were being faced with so much....at times trying to learn all the new medical things could put your body, soul and might in over load! Our paster came to see us durning that time and reminded us not to doubt what God told us in the light when we were walking in the dark. We have remembered that through many times in our life and thank God that he is always there! Blessings, Shane, Julie and Children ....praying in NC

Gordy,
I think your brother-in-laws are rubbing off on you! You explained that "Rock" perfectly and any person would understand. Lots of people read or hear the bible, but do not undertand because of the strange wording. You did good!

It is understandable that you would be concerned about taking Luke home and being responsible for his medical care. Just remember what it felt like when you brought Daniel home, you did not know anything then either did you? What ever you need to learn or do, will come to you.

Here is a hug for you and one for the entire "Miller" family. Please pass it on to all. Our thoughts, love, and prayers continue to be with you all, and will be as long as needed. Love to you all.

Your postings continue to strengthen me. How humbling is that? You and your family are the ones that are going through the trial and I (we) are the ones being strenthened. I pray for you and yours constantly and while I have great sorrow for what has happened, I am grateful for how many people you are reaching in His name. I pray for them constantly. God is Great and His plan prevails. Bless you.

Someone asked for Luke's picture to be shown on each page. Originally, I did this by making it my profile picture. However once I added Luke's Mom as a contributor, it disappeared. I sat down tonight and figured out the code to make it appear on its own. I hope this helps you as you pray for Luke's complete healing.

Gordy,Sue,and Family,
As I write this tonight I am so thankful for the blood of Jesus!! I know that God is going to finish the work that he has started in Luke, the healing process has begun. God is with you always to lean on when you get weary. You're faith and trust will get you through this.
I love you guys.
Luker,
I can't wait to see you're beautiful little smiling face again, I know it will be soon. I love you!

I truly believe that we all do what we HAVE to do. If you had a child with diabetes, you would learn how to care for that child, or one that was disabled from birth, you would learn as well. You will learn this too, and the loving home you are bringing him home to can do nothing but help his progress of healing. I believe for you and I pray that this will come naturally for you until the time that Luke is back to himself. God Bless your family.

Sue, just wanted you to know that I want to be there with you and Luke so bad tonight. We are leaving early in the morning for Portland so I need to sleep. I love you so much. I asked Yoli to tell you that I love you. What a wonderful woman of God you are and a powerful testimony of what God calls us to be when He gives us babies. It's not easy being a Mom, but you do it extremely well!!! You are blessed Sue Searles! I'm praying for you, Gordy and sweet Lil' Luke!!

Sleep well and all will be new in the morning.

I am the wife of the firefighter/paramedic who worked on Luke on his way to the hospital. Did you know those hands who first worked on Luke is also a believer in the Lord Jesus?
Doesn't God work in mysterious ways?
My husband told me what happened and we both lifted him up in prayer, trusting God for complete and total healing. His progress, is no doubt, a total miracle.

Preach it brother! Lord may you so bless Gordy and his family as he uses this trial in his life to bring glory to your NAME. May your Holy Spirit be moving on people all over who don't know your Son as their Savior; as they read his testimonies and his messages from your Word may many come to the end of themselves and realize that receiving what Jesus did on the cross for them as payment for our sins is the only way to heaven. May those who check this site all over who haven't before Repent and receive HIS forgiveness and come to know not only eternal life in heaven someday but His joy and peace on this earth even in the midst of trials. I praise the Lord as I think that before Luke has even had his second birthday he has probably been used by the Lord to bring more people to the Kingdom than many adult Christians. Love in Christ, Mary
