An update and "A Brother's Cry"

Between taking care of Luke in the hospital and getting ready for his home coming on Tuesday, we have been very busy. We praise God as each day we see new indications of the healing process taking place in Luke's body. A couple of examples, Luke is starting to blink as we put eye drops into his eyes. Also, Luke will look for voices he recognizes. His breathing is improved and needs oxygen only once in a while. Thank You Lord for Your healing process for Luke.

On Friday night Luke was hooked up to a CPAP for the first time. The CPAP is a device that pushes air into Luke's lungs to help him breath while he sleeps. The CPAP was connected incorrectly to his trach and it pulled the trach out in the middle of the night. Needless to say, this was a bit scary for Sue who worked with the RT to get it back in place quickly. They were able to get it back in and this showed us that Luke can breath without his trach. Please pray that Luke will cough and swallow and then he will be able to have the trach removed for good. We continue to pray each and every day that God will completely restore Luke's body.

There was a question regarding the prognosis for Luke. At this point the Doctors are not very optimistic regarding Luke's recovery, however we will continue to pray for his complete healing. The doctors have said that on a scale of 1-10 for brain damage, he is at a level 5. They say that we will most likely be able to communicate with Luke, but that he probably will never walk. I understand the doctors not wanting to give you false hope by telling us that he will be okay, because they cannot do anything for his condition. That said, my hope is not in doctors, but in God. We will continue to seek God persistently on Luke's behalf for his complete healing. Lord heal my son Luke.

My oldest son Daniel wrote the song "A Brother's Cry" for Luke. Saturday evening he sang the song to me for the first time. The song touched me deeply and I told him that he needed to record it so that others could hear it. Our friend Chuck helped us record it late last night and then we were able to host it on soundclick.com this evening. To hear the song, click on the link and it will take you to Daniel's page on Soundclick.com, here you will need to click on the music link and then click on lo-fi next to "A Brother's Cry". Below are the words to the song:

"A Brother's Cry"

Verse 1
Is this the day the LORD will,
Luke my little brother heal.
Every day I cry out louder,
To the LORD God my Father.

Chorus
Luke come back to me,
The LORD has something for you to be.

Verse 2
I pray that he'll recover,
So I can teach my brother.
How God sent His son,
To die for everyone.

Chorus

Verse 3
I look long into your eyes,
Hoping for a surprise.
Waiting for you to see,
All of me clearly.

Chorus

Bridge
I'd run a thousand miles,
to see your precious smile.
But I can't do anything,
That's why to the LORD I sing.
Heal my brother Luke,
I give him wholly to you.
Heal my brother Luke,
I give him wholly to you.

Gordy & Sue, thanks again for the update. We treasure the fact that you allow all of us to share in your lives and to be witnesses to God's incredible love for you and Luke. We also continue to press in to God for complete healing for Luke, and to cover your family with His grace. I had the honor of hearing Daniel's song today before church service. I was moved and blessed beyond words. Daniel's song is an incredible gift of love to his brother. He is annointed and gifted by God. Our Lord has great plans for all the Searles' brothers and sisters. We look forward to seeing His plans unfold as the years go by...Love to you all, Roi Lynne

The lyrics are precious! You can really hear his heart for his brother. I signed up for a blog so I could leave comments. My main blog is http://writingmom.bravejournal.com/ where I have added a link to Luke's blog. I also have posted a couple of entries about him and will continue to so that others can find your blog.
Luke's story has touched my heart as well as countless others. I share updates with my family and we lift you him up in our prayers often. I pray God continues to build your faith and trust in Him. He is mighty and worthy to be praised!
Will you continue to update after you take Luke home? Thanks for sharing your beautiful testimony.

Amen Daniel! As I was listening to the song, I kept picturing Daniel while we were in Mexico. One night Trevor, Luther, North and Sam were all sleeping already (the worship team for the trip) and we had asked Daniel to lead worship for us. I kept seeing Daniel sitting outside on Juan and Chella's patio leading worship. Then towards the end of the song, I just pictured Daniel face down in worship of God.
What an awesome picture! And even better...I know that Daniel has been face down in worship, just praying that Luke would continue to improve. And so have the rest of the Searles...and even all of us checking Luke's blog have just been praying for Luke.
I'm excited that Luke is continuing to improve and I know that it is because we have all been praying for him. Praise God!

Sounds like while I have been out of town... you have all been having a busy busy time preparing for Luke to be home again with all of you...how wonderful that is going to be for you and for Him.

I love seeing all the pictures of your children with Luke .... you can see the incredible love and care they have for Him....I believe this is the BEST medicine for Luke....the Love of his family touching, talking and singing to him....praying for him.....I have come to know the important role our children play in each others lives...and how they need each other...and rely on each other as well....

Daniel's song is an incredible testimony of a TRUE brothers love...WOW....Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

I believe your children have been a great example to us all.... of a family that stands together that loves, honors and cares about one another.....Thank you for encouraging our families to continue growing strong not just as individulas but as a complete family...placing each others circumstances ahead of our own ....

I am also thrilled about the searles family having another baby girl in the house...YEA....

Gordy and Sue we are praying for a complete healing for Luke...and believe we serve an amazing GOD ....and we are optimistic because of that.....

Hello Little Luke....well one more day till you get to go home!!! I am filled with joy for you and your family as the day comes for you to go home!! I look forward to the great words that your Daddy will type as he shares about all the things that will be going on with you. You know Luke, I am praying that our Lord Jesus will heal you and restore you back to that sweet smiling boy that I look at each day.
Daniel, I had a chance to hear your song again tonight without all my children around and you so bless my heart.
Luke's Daddy and Mom, as I have been praying for Luke over the past several days, I have thought about my second born little girl (Ruth Ann)...ya know...she can ask my something at least 100 times, she may word it a little different or she may just ask the same way over and over. A lot of times I will tell her No 100 times back but there are times that I will say alright YES....I know that Gods words compares us to being like children and God is our father and I plan on asking over and over till our God say yes to Luke. Be blessed and know that we keep you in our prayers. Shane, Julie and Children

What a wonderful song full of love, faith and hope. It really isn't too surprising given Daniel's musical talents and abilities. I like the picture of Luke dressed in his monkey t-shirt and jeans, ready for an adventure. Let's go to the zoo again. Love, Pam, Hal, Carl and Paul

Hi Gordy and Sue,

Our family spent a special time praying for you. We played Daniel's song for the kids. It's Tues. night here, Tues. morning there. We're ushering in the U.S.A. Tuesday with "WELCOME HOME LUKE" blessing prayers!

After the kids went to bed, I began reading HUGS foundation website updates. You may have read this about Devin, but I thought I'd repeat it here anyway. It fits what you said about doctors' prognosises:

"To give you a prognosis, we would have to put God and His mighty healing power in a box. Therefore we are not going to do it. We are not limited by the conventional wisdom of modern medicine. God is the master physician and our vision is limited to our own expectations; while God’s vision is as vast as the east is to the west. The blind see, the lame walk, and the dead rise when God is working His miracles. Only He knows what Devin’s future holds for him. We serve a great God, so the one thing we know for sure is that great things are going to happen." http://www.devinsmiracle.org/prognosis.htm

We love you all, Kristen

AMEN!! To the Devin's prognosis. I have not read Devin's story, but the statement regarding the prognosis is well put. While the doctors prognosis is not good, our hope is in God.

Luke,

Praise our Mighty God!!! He has brought you home and truly what the evil one meant for harm, God has used for the good of those who love Him and for the glory of His Kingdom!! But, oh, Lil' Luke, He's not done!!!

Words cannot even express the joy I felt in my heart as God answered my prayer today. All day yesterday I wanted so badly to be at the end of our driveway today, waving and cheering you on Lil' Luke. And as you made your way safely home, our little soldier wounded in battle, God got our family home just minutes before. And a quick phone call revealed that you were going to be passing by our home soon! And it was all I could do to stand still and just wave!!! I wanted to shout with the loudest voice I could muster up..... PRAISE YOU GOD!! I just want the whole world to know, Luke, that someday every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!!!

Wounded? Yes. But, God has mighty and awesome plans that will not be thwarted!!! He loves you so much Lil' Luke and you are going to bless a world that is so much in need of God. I can just see you and hear you someday as you give your testimony of all that God has done, and that testimony will overcome the evil one and will heal many!! Praise God!!!

What a glorious Day in the Lord! Lil' Luke is HOME!!!

With the Sweet Love of our Mighty Savior, Jesus Christ!

Luke,

Silly me, I accidentally removed my post. Anyway, I have been thinking all day about your going home and even though I can no longer look out my kitchen window toward the hospital and pray for you,I rejoice that you are home and I am one of many who will continue to pray for you through this journey. I know that the warm and familiar environment of your home will only help you toward recovery. I am still believing for the next miracle!

Gordy and Sue,
Hold strong to the faith that you have. The doctors as gifted as they are have underestimated the power in the sweet prayers that make the Father smile. When I was born way back then my parents were told I would never walk without braces. My parents covered me daily in prayer and not only was I able to walk but ran track in school as well. The Father's healing hand is mighty.

Hi, it is your friends from GA. I am sorry we have not posted! Our oldest son has been in the hospital since Monday (today is Wed.) and I have been with him a lot of the time. Nothing serious just dehydration/flu. He is back at college. I am so very happy you are HOME!!! I loved the picture of Sue on the couch (that is a couch?) with Luke. Such peace to just be at home. I will keep in touch. I loved the pictures. We all listened to Daniel's song... so powerful, beautiful. Again, I thank you for sharing with all of us. When I pulled up the site and saw that Luke went home I started screaming.... "LUKE, IS HOME, LUKE IS HOME" my children all came to look. We love all of you!
